The main objective of this course is
to meet the learner's needs through instruction in English
for specific purpose (E.S.P.) This will be achieved by
a combination of accuracy and fluency through parallel
instruction in linguistic features and the productive
skills of reading and writing. Linguistic features shall
include a grammar review of relevant structural and grammatical
concepts in meaningful contexts. Some vocabulary and usage,
common idiomatic expressions and punctuation principles
will also be highlighted. The course also aims to familiarize
learners with Reading Skills such as improving reading
speed, different types of reading suited to varying purposes,
using contextual clues as well as extracting gists. Writing
skills such as précis writing, letter writing etc. are
also an integral part of the course.

Keeping in view the increasing significance
and need for effective business communication, "The
Communication Workshop" is a new addition to the
course offering intended to facilitate the development
of effective communication skills and strategies. It has
been felt that familiarity with theoretical concepts of
"communication" does not ensure success in the
application of these principles to real situations pertaining
to organization and management. Therefore, the aims of
this course will not only be to introduce the essentials
of Business Communications Philosophy but course participants
will be required to apply their knowledge, inferring and
deducing solutions to problematic situations. This goal
will be achieved by strategies integrated into well organized
modules as a sequence of exercises.

in areas of Management and Marketing. The aims and objectives
of this particular course are to introduce course participants
to the importance, needs, varieties, and technicalities
of business reports. Aspects of written business reports
such as organization, contents, impact, and style will
be highlighted. Students will aim for proficiency in writing
letters, memos, messages, resumes and applications etc.

Seasonal Variations and Index Numbers.
